The Project Portfolio base of Johnston Engineering includes schools, condominiums, public buildings, office buildings, industrial facilities, manufacturing facilities, sports arenas, historical building renovations and upgrades and more.

Our philosophy is to maintain high standards, professionalism, integrity, ethics, quality and creative solutions. We define the problem, spend the client’s money wisely, get the desired results and strive to develop a lasting client relationship.

Our mission is to exceed our customer’s expectations and to continue to grow through intimate relationships providing mechanical & plumbing projects for ideal customers as the Southwest’s leader in energy efficient, innovative mechanical design solutions that improve safety in schools and workplaces, while providing a great place to work, with a long-range plan for growth. by providing on-time, error free performance with outstanding reliability for positive results. Each project is assigned a qualified project manager to serve as the client’s representative and to supervise a team who has the technical expertise required for a specific project. The project team has full responsibility for the daily progress of all aspects of the project and guarantees complete coordination of the disciplines while maintaining strict cost and schedule controls.

TREVOR G. BROWNE HIGH SCHOOL

At Trevor G. Browne High School, JEC provided mechanical design and engineering services for the replacement of (2) existing 800-ton cooling towers. JEC also performed construction administration services to ensure the equipment was ordered and installed as specified.

CARL HAYDEN HIGH SCHOOL

The goal of this project was to renovate the mechanical systems including fan coil unit and air handling unit replacements throughout the campus. The work included new mechanical, piping and energy management system replacements. The engineering included mechanical, structural and electrical design for: (1) field verification, pre-purchase packages; (2) upgrades to the existing mechanical systems including air handler, pump, DX units, exhaust fan and fan coil unit replacements, plus piping and insulation and isolation valve replacements in Buildings 200, 400A, 400B, 500, 600, 800, 900, 910, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1500, Boiler Room and Central Plant; and (3) EMS upgrades including building automation system renovations/replacements. Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization and demand control ventilation were employed to improve classroom indoor air quality.

Whittier ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

This 1GPA contracted project implemented new fan coil unit replacements for the 65,537 SF school. The scope included a mechanical design for replacements of the split air conditioning, packaged units with a gas heating system throughout the facility (1950’s + 1990’s). New equipment is current high efficiency technology, split heat pump units (no gas). Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization (NPBI) (which mitigates COVID-19) was employed to improve classroom indoor air quality. The design includes interface with new controls, adding ducted outside air (low leakage) and return air (standard) dampers, and adding supply fans. The work included gymnasium addition rooftop units (RTU), outside air dampers. Drawings and construction documents were prepared to remove the heating fan coils, BLR, and RTU’s. This project interfaced new equipment with a new Tridium Niagra energy management control system. There were no existing drawings. Therefore, field verification and documentation of the existing mechanical and electrical systems was critical to the success of this installation.

Town of Paradise Valley

The goal of this project was to renovate the mechanical systems for this Town hall. The work included new fan coil unit ionization devices, one chiller replacement, pump replacements a chilled water buffer tank chiller yard piping and energy management system replacement. The engineering included mechanical and electrical design for: (1) field verification, pre-purchase packages; (2) upgrades to the existing mechanical systems including DX high efficiency chiller, pumps, new exhaust fan and, plus chiller yard piping and insulation; and (3) EMS upgrades including building automation system renovations / replacements. Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization upgrades were employed on existing fan coil units to improve indoor air quality. VAV dampers were added to some fan coil units to improve temperature control.
